In our series called TALKS, which began in early 2020 and are inspired in part by Vogue’s Global Conversations, we reflect on the fashion industry in the Pacific Northwest and interview professionals at the forefront of our unfolding new reality. This has become all the more important in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as so many were devastated by total shutdowns of supply chains and consumer spending, lack of access to government resources, accruing debts, and inflexibility of lease agreements. Yet there is hope and a path forward. Our goal is to tell the story of Northwest fashion in its own words so that we can move forward together. Tap the images below to discover how artists THROUGHOUT our industry have responded to our new global paradigm.

Editor’s Note, November 2021: Nearly two years after the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak, Seattle’s independent fashion industry still grapples with the new pandemic paradigm. While manufacturing has resumed and in many ways increased, public sentiment remains cautious. Washington State continues to recommend vaccinations, masking in public areas, and maintaining social distancing. Online fashion businesses with generous return policies appear to dominate the landscape. New variants of COVID-19, including delta and Omicron, have been reported.
